Vietnam has reaffirmed its dominance in the global cashew trade, emerging once again as the world’s top exporter despite fluctuations in export volumes. Between January and July 2025, the country earned USD 2.8 billion from cashew exports — an 18.3% rise in value year-on-year — driven by a sharp 21.5% increase in global prices, even as export volumes dipped slightly by 2.6% to 412,710 tonnes.
For the 18th consecutive year, Vietnam continues to command over 80% of global cashew exports, supported by its robust processing capacity, premium quality output, and steady demand from major markets. China emerged as the strongest growth driver, with imports rising 28.8% to 96,230 tonnes, while European markets like the Netherlands and Germany remained stable. However, demand from the US dropped sharply by 27.5% to 83,020 tonnes, reflecting shifting consumption trends.
The country’s average export price surged to USD 6,805 per tonne, offsetting volume losses and underscoring its competitive advantage. Experts noted that Vietnam’s future momentum will depend on continued investments in quality assurance, technological innovation, and climate resilience, given the persistent risks from erratic weather patterns.
Looking ahead, the cashew industry is gearing up for seasonal demand during global festivals, with Vietnam targeting an ambitious USD 4.5 billion in export revenues for 2025. While tightening domestic raw supplies may sustain higher prices, industry players view the current environment as a mix of opportunities and risks for global traders, processors, and end-users alike.
